Lazy-Friday-Night Thoughts

Investors Business Daily calls Mike Huckabee “an unelectable Republican.”   I freely confess that I am no expert on politics, nor am I psychic–and also, it’s early yet–but I think that characterization is off the mark.  I’m starting to believe that for conservatives who don’t like Huckabee, the concern should be that he is too electable.  Conservative pundits love to point out that Beltway insiders and media prognosticators are hopelessly out of touch with that fabled animal, The American People.  But those conservative pundits are pretty pointy-headed, too.  Huckabee has proven everyone wrong so far: maybe that will change.  But populism seems to be the order of the day, and Huck, a classic Baptist, has that particular buck-and-shuffle down pat.  I suppose that over the next ten months—known as “hell” to those of us who think elections should happen IN ELECTION YEARS—we’ll see.

In other Huckabee news, he has apparently been dubbed a “Christian Socialist.”  A little extreme, but still, the Huckster is a little too much like Lindsay Lohan for my taste: way too willing to give freebies after a few intoxicating highs.

With regard to illegal immigrants, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: deport them all.  Every last sorry one.

I passed a guy on the freeway today who had about 15 absurd, leftist bumper stickers applied to his rear windshield.  Bad enough to begin with, but this particular tool was driving an old hoopty Saturn and had taped the stickers, at their corners, to the windshield.  Is there any better sign that you’re a spineless p***y than to not even be brave enough to actually stick the stickers onto that kind of car?

ComCast On Demand is rocking my world.  The pay-per-view movies are alright, I guess, but the Free Movies! section (captioned just that way) is where it’s at.  Did you know that at this very moment, you can watch—FOR FREE—The Haunting of Julia, Class, Mr. Mom, Let’s Scare Jessica to Death, and The Wicker Man???  Mind-boggling.

Speaking of movies, Cloverdale is coming out on the 18th.  The Poughkeepsie Tapes opens in February.  I plan to see Sweeney Todd at least two more times on the big screen.  And The Lovely Bones will grace theaters in 2009.  Looking forward to movies is the only way I will be able to stand the mind-numbing pap that will be thrown at me from the political sphere in the next year.  Now I know why Hollywood is valuable: the assholes on the Left Coast always pull through and distract me from the douchebaggery emanating from Washington, D.C.

  1. Queen,

My blogroll has expanded, my blog has grown, and I have gotten so busy lately that I barely have time to read many of the blogs on my own blogroll on a regular basis, much less comment on them.

A precious few have taken this personally, and I thought I would take one night to just say hello to every blog on my blogroll, or anyone I have corresponded with that has been nice to me.

I wish you a successful 2008, and happiness always.

  2. Well how sweet of you, Eric! Thanks, and Happy New Year to you too. Keep up the good blogging!
