Not Doing What Comes Naturally

The Daily Mail recently profiled two women, Sarah Irving and Toni Vernelli, who have sterilized themselves in order to “save the planet.”

The idiocy and narcissism of these people is complete and shocking.  Sarah’s husband Mark says they are happy “knowing that we are doing our bit to save our precious planet.” Toni aborted her first child because the thought of bringing another burdensome human into the world made her “shudder with horror,” and rejoiced when she was finally able to find a “forward-thinking” doctor who would destroy her fertility at the age of 27.  Toni declares, “I didn’t like having a termination, but it would’ve been immoral to give birth to a child that I felt strongly would only be a burden to the world.”  And in case you were worried that Toni’s great sacrifice caused any unpleasantness for her, don’t.  She reflects that she has “never felt a twinge of guilt” and has “honestly never wondered what might have been.”  Well, that makes it all okay, I guess—as long as you don’t feel guilty, you haven’t done anything wrong!

How long can a civilization survive when its members view children as burdensome, repulsive parasites?  My guess is, not long.  I have to say, I’m not terribly bothered by the choice of these stupid women and their pantywaist husbands to eliminate themselves from the gene pool.  But it does disturb me to see potential mothers proudly—with ear-to-ear grins and fathomless self-indulgence—speak of human life as a plague to be eliminated.  Because no matter how they phrase it, that is what they are saying.  A question to Toni, Sarah, and anyone who shares their views: if the planet can only be saved by getting rid of humans, shouldn’t you kill yourselves?  Isn’t that the next logical step, the most responsible thing to do? After all, you consume far more precious resources than a little baby.

Seriously.  The best way for these couples to thorougly eliminate their “carbon footprint” would be to commit suicide.  That way, all the water and air and food they waste with their existence would be returned to the Earth, right?  And hey, why not take it a step further: set a quota for “sustainable” population growth, and euthanize all newborns born after the quota is reached?  If the planet is truly in peril, and human life has less value than a hypothetical utopia wherein humans leave no trace of their existence, then why not get right to the source of the problem and terminate all those parasitic, polluting babies? And hey, why not go ahead and get rid of everyone over retirement age while we’re at it?  They really are useless eaters.

If the world were a benevolent place, populated only by kind and gentle peoples, the suicidal non-reproduction of “progressive” Westerners like Irving and Vernelli wouldn’t be a problem for the rest of us.  They could safely go about their narcissistic, boneheaded self-elimination and the rest of us could just roll our eyes and go about our business.  Unfortunately, that is not the case.  If Europeans refuse to produce, who inherits the West?  Rest assured that someone will.

Nations and civilizations are not merely conglomerations of individuals who just happen to be standing inside the same boundaries; rather, nations and civilizations are defined by the ideals upon which their governments, laws, and customs are founded.  If I hopped on a plane to Paris and stood in front of the Eiffel Tower, I would not magically become “French.”  And just because an unchecked flood of Muslims have chosen to relocate to European countries does not mean they are, or have the slightest intention of becoming, “British” or legitimate members of any other Western nation.   Barbarian Muslims understand this perfectly, and are more frequently abandoning the pretense that their emigration is anything other than an aggressive invasion: a (regrettably) unnamed Norwegian imam in this Daily Mail article very accurately notes that Muslims in Europe are breeding “like mosquitos” and that Islam will eventually triumph because of it.  To quote Edward the Longshanks in Braveheart, “If we can’t get them out, we’ll breed them out.”

Educated, polite Westerners who call themselves progressive can’t seem to grasp the simple reality that noble, lofty ideals do not sustain themselves: they require human advocates.  Muslims are breeding like mosquitos, and Europeans are breeding (or not breeding) like panda bears.  If that continues, there’s no question who will eventually win the war of ideas, not to mention literal wars.  Oh well, what does it matter as long as people like Sarah Irving and Toni Vernelli feel good about themselves?

  1. Beautifully said, QoS!

I picked up on the Islam link as well. These people remind me of the Muslims who send other’s kids to be suicide bombers but send their own or go themselves, because their leadership is too vital.

Here’s my favorite line of yours: “Muslims are breeding like mosquitos, and Europeans are breeding (or not breeding) like panda bears.”

I may have to quote you on that sometime!

  2. D’oh! That obviously should have read, “but don’t send” instead of “but send.”

  3. I like the misquito/panda bear line as well. 🙂

Some of us happen to think that we aren’t all that cut out to be parents. I don’t particularly want to parent for the same reason I don’t want to be a carpenter: other people are better at it and want to do it more. I will, however, allocate my 2.1 children to someone who would like to have them. 😉

What really bothers me isn’t the fact that people aren’t having children – there are tons of bad reasons to have kids, and tons of selfish parents who make their offspring into miserable, welfare-sucking losers – but it’s the reasons and the methods that bother me. Don’t abort. Adopt a kid or two, if you’re worried about the carbon footprint. Heck – be really ahead of the times and adopt a snowflake baby! Separate out European birth rates (where they desperately need more people to sustain the welfare state) and those of non-Western countries. Realise that other countries will slow down their birth rates as they become more prosperous. Realise that the Earth has adapted before and will continue to do so. Understand that you could well be aborting the child who would make a technological breakthrough that would be enormously beneficial to the environment.

  4. […] into Peer Pressure Since everyone else is doing it, elephants should, too.  A woman in Britain has aborted her child on the grounds […]

  5. Its interesting to note that just as the muslims are breeding like mosquitos and intend to destroy civilization in this manner, so also does a cancer destroy a human being with its ability to out produce healthy cells with cancerous cells. I see a very close relationship between these two.

  6. That’s insightful, Dr. Bulldog. (I’m not being sarcastic.)
