Gwen, We Hardly Knew Ye.

I’ve always thought Gwen Stefani is a pretty damn cool chick.  I still do, in spite of her recent poor decision to go the dhimmi route at her recent concert in Malaysia.

Gwen is beautiful, strong, happily married with an adorable little boy, a successful entrepreneur (her clothing line L.A.M.B. is edgy and hip), and a fabulous performer.  Her costuming trademark is a bared midriff, but she never looks slutty.  At a recent concert, she spontaneously climbed about 50 feet up on-stage scaffolding and sang from that height to her screaming fans.  She freakin’ rocks.  Yet when some Muslim students protest, she bends  over like a weak bitch and dons the burka out of “respect” for their tyrannical culture of enslavement.  Disappointing, to say the least.

Just as disappointing was this recent (non) opinion piece on Townhall.com by one Lorie Byrd, which you can read here.  Ms. Byrd’s only beef with Stefani’s dhimmitude is that it was Muslims who cowed her into dressing in a potato sack, and not Christians or Jews.  Ms. Byrd entirely missed the point—about Stefani and the meaning of “modesty” among religions—and I sent her an email that was pretty, well, scathing.  It pisses me off when Americans are too stupid or blind to see what these “respectful”  concessions really mean, and it REALLY pisses me off when the mealy-mouthed appeasement and/or moral blindness  comes from people paid to write for conservative opinion media outlets.  Boo!!!!!!

  1. There is something ridiculous about a person who cannot tell the difference between a burqa and Ann Taylor.

  2. That’s exactly what I thought too.
